A view of St. Tropez harbour and its yachts

The Address

Sénéquier’s welcomes you to St. Tropez. Located on the harbour, the brasserie opens onto a sweeping terrace all decorated and designed in red.

Opposite stands the Place aux Herbes (Herb Square) where the pastry, confection, and chocolate shop has been a haunt of the sweet-toothed since 1887.

Living tradition

In 1887 the patisserie of two St. Tropezians, Marie and Martin Sénéquier, opened for business on the Place aux Herbes in St. Tropez.

Soon local people coming out of mass would stop at the patisserie, between the Church of the Assumption and the harbour, to enjoy its specialities – especially its fine white nougat. The nougat’s ancestral recipe gave Sénéquier’s its letters of nobility. In the 1930s, drawn by its colours and contrasts, painters flocked to the small Mediterranean town together with their musician and actor friends.

Marie’s and Martin’s daughter, Lisette, fell in love with a man from the Pyrenees who had succumbed to the charms of the Riviera. Together they decided to give St. Tropez its first large terrace where they served iced coffee, café liégeois, and Viennese coffee. Sénéquier’s became a legend.

The Address

Nougat, nougat, nougat

Nougat is the great house speciality. Both hard and tender, it releases soft, subtle flavours in the mouth. A home recipe that that has become the most prized St. Tropezian gourmet delight. For 120 years, it has been confected in the secret workshop of the House of Sénéquier. Today it is appreciated worldwide.

A jealously guarded recipe that mixes Spanish almonds and Sicilian pistachio nuts with Provencal honey. They are slowly steam in a copper bain-marie to make the nougat. It is then sold in silver paper, like a veritable treasure.

The true Tropezian tart

Sénéquier’s famous “tarte tropézienne” can be eaten in or taken away. It is a light, sugared sponge cake garnished with a blend of three creams.
